How Can I Prevent Clogged Drain Lines In My Home?
Dispose of Grease and Food Properly:
Any left over grease, fats, sauces, gravy, or oils should be poured into a heat resistant container. Once the refuse cools down it can be disposed of in the garbage. Under no circumstances should you ever pour any kind of oil or food down your drains or garbage disposal. You should install drain guards to capture any hair, food, or other material before it enters your drain.
Expert Tip: You can also line a coffee mug with aluminum foil. Pour the grease carefully into the lined mug and allow the grease to completely cool. Once the grease cools, simply lift the foil out of the mug and throw it away!

Proper Disposal of Paper Products:
The only things that can be flushed down your drains are human waste and toilet paper. Regardless of what the packaging says; diapers, paper towels, tampons, prophylactics, wet ones, pets and food should never be flushed under any circumstances; these items do not deteriorate and will clog your main sewer line.
Repipe Your Drain & Sewer Pipes:
One way to prevent collapsed sewer lines is to replace your clay or cast iron sewer. Repiping your sewer is also effective against tree root intrusion. All of the sewer’s we install in Sioux Falls use today’s newer plastic or PVC pipe. If you have continuing problems with tree roots in your sewer line, you may need to have the infiltrating roots cut or your line cleared periodically. Recurring problems with drain clogs inside of the home often require repiping the steel, cast iron or ABS plastic pipe with PVC pipe.
Installation of a Backwater Prevention Valve:
These fixtures are installed into a sewer line in the basement of your home to prevent sewer backups. A backwater valve allows sewage to go out, but not to come back in.
Chemical Free Methods of Drain Clearing:
A great option for DIY drain cleaning is to use hot water or vinegar and baking soda. Under no circumstances should a homeowner use chemicals containing acids. These chemicals rarely work. Furthermore they are hazardous to your health as well as anyone you hire to work on your drain pipes.
